This internship will be hybrid, and interns must be located near one of our US based offices Wellesley, MA; Kansas City, MO; Hartford, CT; Portland, ME; Milwaukee, WI.

The Role 

Working within the U.S. tax department of a large Canadian-based financial services company, the Tax Intern will work along other tax professionals in the U.S. Tax Operations Team. The intern should have a working knowledge of accounting theory and principles as well as some U.S. income tax knowledge.  

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Assist in preparation of income tax workpapers for provision and compliance.

• Research basic US tax theory.

• Assist with completion of book/tax differences and may include deprecation.

• Assist with compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley internal control requirements.

• Assist with reconciling tax accounts.

• Assist in special projects as needed.

Core skill sets needed for this role:

• Working towards Bachelor's degree in accounting or the equivalent is required.

• Strong analytical and problem solving skills are critical.

• Strong communication skills - both written and oral are required.

• Proficiency in Microsoft applications (e.g. Excel and Word) is essential.

The Candidate

To be eligible for an internship at Sun Life, you must meet the following requirements:

• Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university during the time of internship (June 2026 August 2026)

• Must be an undergraduate or graduate student in accounting, tax or the equivalent

• Eligible to legally work in the United States

• Ability to work full-time (40 hours/week) during Intern session

Compensation for this role will be $20 an hour.
