- Senior Scientist - Human Systems Immunology (Crawford Lab)
Description
Are you a driven scientist with a passion for advancing our understanding of childhood immune development? The Crawford Lab is seeking a Senior Scientist to lead and shape research into the mechanisms of pediatric immunity, leveraging cutting-edge technologies and multidisciplinary approaches.
About the Opportunity
This is a unique opportunity to join the ground level of a new endeavor in the Crawford Lab focused on the comprehensive characterization of the human immune system throughout childhood development. You will work closely with experts in next-generation, multi-omic assays and integrative computational analysis to unravel the complexities of immunity in health, disease, and treatment.
This work will need expert knowledge of human immunology, which you will apply collaboratively to:
- Design panels of relevant immunological markers for immune phenotyping, biological perturbations, and health or disease states.
- Generate gold standard data to validate novel sequencing-based approaches.
- Test and validate novel, sequencing-based approaches to data generation
- Synthesize and interpret molecular underpinnings from population-level, multi-modal data from primary samples.
The ideal candidate will have extensive bench experience, a keen attention to detail, and a history of first-author publications in immunology. Success in this position also requires:
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- The ability to multi-task and collaborate effectively
- Comfort working in tandem with a culturally and scientifically diverse team to achieve shared research goals
We’re Especially Interested in Candidates With:
- Deep and current knowledge of immunology literature.
- Extensive expertise in human peripheral or mucosal immunology.
- Proven research experience in innate/adaptive immunity and host-pathogen interactions.
- Hands-on experience studying childhood immune system development.
- Technical proficiency in cell culture, multiparameter flow cytometry, biomarker discovery, and primary human sample analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, execute, and oversee experiments/projects independently under the direction of the PI.
- Develop and refine research protocols, techniques, and procedures.
- Analyze, organize, and interpret complex datasets—including flow cytometry and omics data.
- Ensure data quality and integrity; prepare reports and summaries of experimental results.
- Present research findings internally and at external conferences; contribute to manuscripts as co-author or lead writer.
- Support and optimize lab operations: recommend equipment, troubleshoot instruments, and guide process improvements.
- Mentor and train junior scientists and lab staff in advanced immunology methods and analytical techniques.
- Contribute to ongoing and new research initiatives to achieve departmental and institutional goals.
Requirements
Minimum Education and/or Training:
- Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific area is required.
Minimum Experience:
- Ten (10) years relevant work experience is required.
- Eight (8) years of relevant work experience is required with a Master's degree.
- Five (5) years of relevant work experience is required with a PhD.
Compensation
In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
