- Robotic Cardiac Surgery Fellowship
Description
The Department of Cardiac Surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is seeking applications for a one-year, non-ACGME clinical fellowship in Robotic Cardiac Surgery. This advanced program offers specialized training and supervised clinical experience in robot-assisted adult cardiac surgery, focusing on complex conditions such as valvular diseases, intra-cardiac lesions, and coronary interventions. It provides fellows with experience beyond standard cardiothoracic surgery residency training.
Throughout the fellowship, RCS fellows will have the opportunity to perform robot-assisted cardiac procedures and collaborate with specialized robotic cardiac surgeons and multidisciplinary healthcare teams. The program is designed to deepen knowledge and skills in robotic surgery, with fellows participating in:
- Management of robotic cardiac surgery for conditions such as coronary bypass and intra-cardiac interventions.
- Comprehensive care of complex adult cardiac patients, including preoperative assessment, surgical management, and postoperative care, especially for high-risk and major mitral surgeries.
- Interpretation and analysis of diagnostic imaging studies.
- Active participation in both urgent and elective robotic mitral valve surgeries.
- Co-surgeon duties on robotic procedures under the supervision of the Program Director and other cardiothoracic surgeons.
- Teaching opportunities to train cardiothoracic surgery residents and fellows in diagnosing and treating complex mitral valve disease.
- Additional academic and scholarly activities as directed by the Program Director to support the mission of the Smidt Heart Institute.
As part of this experience, fellows will progressively assume greater responsibility for robotic cardiac surgery patients, with the goal of achieving independent practice upon completion of the program. The fellowship also provides opportunities for involvement in clinical and translational research, allowing fellows to hone their skills in data collection, analysis, and presentation.
