Description
The O'Brien Lab in the Department of Biophysics and Biophysical Chemistry at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine seeks a full-time Research Technologist. The candidate will support the lab with general day-to-day activities, including ordering, cell/tissue culture and maintenance, biochemistry, molecular biology, and protein purification. While this is a support position, the candidate will have training opportunities.Our lab is a membrane protein biochemistry and biophysics lab, focusing on G-protein coupled receptor structural biology, dynamics, and drug discovery.
The candidate will have a particular focus in supporting the lab's work on expressing and purifying human GPCRs. The candidate should have prior lab experience and be familiar with standard lab techniques, including
- Aseptic Technique
- Cell Culture (bacterial, insect, mammalian)
- Molecular Cloning (PCR)
- Biochemistry (Gels, western blot)
- Protein Purification
- Computer Literacy

- Ordering
- Buffer and reagent preparation
- Cell culture maintenance
- Cloning (PCR)
- Protein purification
- Collect and analyze data as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related field.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond High School Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Some related post-undergraduate work experience is preferred.

Salary Range
The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University.

Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
