OPERATIONS SUPERVISORRiver Bend Foodbank, Davenport, IA
Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000
SUMMARY:
The Operations Supervisor plays a pivotal leadership role in overseeing daily warehouse operations at the Davenport facility. This position is responsible for supervising a team of employees engaged in picking, replenishing, receiving, delivering, and rescuing food. A successful candidate must be a strong, hands-on leader with a proven ability to manage and motivate teams in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. The role demands exceptional organizational skills and keen attention to detail to ensure that Hunger Relief partner orders and retail pickups are executed with accuracy and timeliness. Working closely with the Operations Systems Manager, the Operations Supervisor is accountable for developing clear daily workloads, maintaining strict adherence to food safety standards, and fostering an environment of accountability and continuous improvement. In addition to operational oversight, this individual is responsible for ensuring the warehouse remains clean, safe, and well-organized at all times, ready to welcome volunteers, partners, and auditors. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a high level of initiative, adaptability, and collaboration, with the ability to effectively prioritize and lead during times of change, such as staffing shortages or unexpected logistic challenges. Leadership and organizational skills needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead with Clarity and Confidence: Provide strong, consistent leadership by clearly communicating daily priorities, performance expectations, and organizational goals to all direct reports through regular one-on-one check-ins and team meetings.
- Structured Scheduling and Oversight: Develop and maintain detailed schedules for warehouse staff, manage time-off requests, and utilize performance metrics to assess and improve individual and team efficiency.
- Performance Management: Monitor team performance closely, delivering timely, constructive feedback. Take decisive action when expectations are not met, including coaching, written documentation, or disciplinary steps to maintain high standards.
- Adaptability and Problem-Solving: Stay composed and solutions-focused in a dynamic work environment. Proactively adjust workflows in response to short staffing, unexpected donations, delivery delays, or shifting priorities - ensuring operational goals remain on track.
- Maintain Clean, Safe, and Organized Facilities: Ensure the warehouse is consistently clean, well-organized, and compliant with all food safety and sanitation protocols. This includes preparing the space for unannounced visitors, volunteers, and compliance inspections.
- Hiring, Training, and Development: Lead the recruitment and onboarding of new staff. Provide thorough initial and ongoing training to build a knowledgeable, dependable, and safety-conscious team. Promote a culture of accountability, learning, and continuous improvement.
- Strategic Execution: Understand and contribute to the execution of strategic initiatives and department-level objectives that support the broader goals of River Bend Food Bank.
- Timely Documentation: Complete employee performance evaluations and wage recommendations promptly and with appropriate detail and fairness.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Partner with colleagues across the organization to align operational efforts with company-wide initiatives, ensuring collaboration, mutual support, and shared success.
- Facility and Safety Coordination: Work closesly with the Director of Facilities & Safety and the Operations Systems Manager to ensure proper facility upkeep, a safe work environment, and compliance with safety protocols and audit requirements.
- Build Interdepartmental Relationships: Proactively support and strengthen the relationship between operations and other departments, promoting transparency, respect, and shared mission focus.
- Policy Compliance: Understand, uphold, and model compliance with River Bend Food Bank's employee handbook policies, serving as an example to others.
- Lead By Example: Step in to perform or support various roles when needed to ensure seamless operations and demonstrate commitment to teamwork and accountability.
- Other Duties As Assigned: Remain flexible and open to evolving responsibilities that support the mission of River Bend Food Bank.
QUALIFICATIONS & ABILITIES:
- High school diploma or an equivalent
- 3 or more years of experience in a warehouse setting
- Supervisory experience highly preferred.
- Ability to complete forklift and ServSafe certification within 30 days of hire.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively communicate and promote team collaboration.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task and successfully meet goals and deadlines.
- Accurate data entry and basic math skills.
- Ability to occasionally travel out-of-town if required.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and Saturdays, with limited overtime.
- Willingness to support the mission of the organization and to help end hunger in our area.
- Ability to understand and implement health department, Feeding America, OSHA, and AIB standards to ensure safe storage and distribution of food.
