Landscape Superintendent
Job Summary:
The Superintendent is responsible for overseeing daily operations on landscape and maintenance projects. This position manages field crews, ensures projects are completed on time and within budget, upholds quality standards, and promotes a safe working environment. The superintendent acts as the key point of contact between the client, subcontractors, vendors, and the company’s management team. The Landscape Superintendent must balance hands-on fieldwork, effective team leadership, and strong communication skills.
Primary Responsibilities:
Improve, create and maintain a consistent standard of work for the crews
Monitor the process of getting crews out to their assignment at the start of the workday and managing workloads and scheduling needs.
Scheduling of contracted work and follow up with residents/customers
Participate in hiring of foreman/crew members
Direct supervision of landscape staff including establishing goals and expectations, performance management, corrective action, and training
Effectively and professionally communicate with foreman, landscape crews, office staff, and customers
Enforce Company safety standards. Report unsafe conditions and conduct research to improve service quality and safety standards
Lead by example in all tasks, always showing attention to detail and setting high expectations for new and existing crew members
Keep current with industry best practices
Utilize time efficiently between design work, sales, and customer interaction
Extensive knowledge of horticultural practices, landscape maintenance, and ornamental, native and invasive plants, and their cultural conditions
Thorough understanding of landscape construction with the ability to estimate job costs
Coordinate with landscape foreman for installation of design
Assist landscape foreman with proper installation of plant material
Willing to assist with all aspects of full-service landscape company
Able to understand cost analysis along with staying within budget
Maintain proper working condition of equipment/vehicles by ensuring fluid levels, checking tire pressure and overall working condition, and relaying any concerns to mechanic
Perform other incidental and related duties as required
Snow removal (shovel, plow, apply ice-melt products)
Ensures the efficient transition from landscape season to snow season and back again
Coordinates snow operation in conjunction with Landscape Superintendent by creating a proactive approach to all season’s workloads including budgets, schedules, training, crew coordination and communication
Actively participates in the snow program throughout the season
Requirements
Requirements:
Legal citizen of the United States with valid Social Security Card
Landscape related management experience: 4 years preferred
Valid driver’s license
Passion for teaching and training
Ability to motivate a diverse workforce
Problem solving and employee conflict resolution skills
Exceptional organization and follow-through skills
Good presentation skills for plans and proposals with clients
Represent the landscape team by wearing provided uniform and safety equipment
Sound mind and body
Able to lift 50 pounds
Capable of standing/walking for long periods of time
Capable of working in extreme heat/cold conditions
Have, or obtain within 90 days, Certified Pesticide Applicators License category 6, 7, 9, 16
Attend 1-2 classes per year for industry related procedures and updates
Basic computer knowledge
Ability to meet with customers and provide them with proposals
