The Louisville Nature Center is hiring a dynamic Engagement and Volunteer Coordinator to support our growth and our mission of conservation and environmental education. The Job:
Volunteer Coordination ≈ 25%
Coordinates volunteer projects that further our mission of conservation and nature education.
Engages with volunteers, such as welcoming, orienting, and training them, as well as showing recognition and appreciation.
Maintains volunteer information such as contacts, background checks, schedule, etc.
Engagement ≈ 25%
Develops and executes social media strategies to inspire a love of nature, and to engage the community with all aspects of LNC.
Communicates with LNC constituents via bi-weekly e-newsletters informing of upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and news.
Members are a backbone of LNC support. This position steers the membership program to attract new members and keep current members connected.
Manages website content.
Assists with special events (shared among LNC staff).
Rental Coordination ≈ 25%
Rentals are many people’s first experience with LNC! This position works to schedule rentals and make sure these visitors have the best possible first experience.
Visitor Services ≈ 25%
Answers phones and greets visitors to LNC as needed (shared among LNC staff).
Coordinates construction and sales of rain barrels to support LNC while encouraging sustainability.
Other duties as assigned and/or as shared among staff.
Compensation: The position starts at $17 hr, with 2 weeks paid vacation, 10 paid holidays, and sick time. Health, dental, and vision insurance is available; employee pays 20% of the premium.
It is expected that the Engagement and Volunteer Coordinator will work 35-40 hrs/week, M-F, with rare evenings and weekends. This is an in-person position, with occasional remote work allowed upon approval.
About us: Louisville Nature Center provides environmental education to people from all over the city, and encourages stewardship via ecosystem revitalization, focused on our 80 acre urban forest. We are supported by a kind, inclusive community of dedicated staff, volunteers, Board of Directors, and members. Our grounds include 2 miles of trails, a Nature Play Area, a bird viewing area, gardens, and an education center with live reptiles and amphibians. LNC is home to the Swallowtail Forest School.

Qualifications
Related work experience
Strong attention to detail, and ability to work both collaboratively and with minimal supervision
Proficiency in MS Office and social media platforms
Solid written and oral communication skills
Friendly, inclusive customer service presence
Interest in and commitment to Louisville Nature Center’s mission
While this position does not work directly with children, they are the lifeblood of LNC, so enjoying children is a must.
