Job DescriptionThe Virginia Tech Honors College seeks a versatile Collegiate Assistant Professor with experience or interest in transdisciplinary collaboration to support our educational mission and collaborate around related scholarship (https://honorscollege.vt.edu). Virginia Tech Honors provides students with transdisciplinary and experiential learning opportunities through immersive courses and studios that require them to collaborate on real-world problems with faculty alongside trans-sector nonprofit, industry, government, university, and community partners. Honors College faculty and staff develop and implement student-centered and innovative approaches to undergraduate education that can be scaled across the university and beyond.
Reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, this position will support the instructional and scholarly mission of the Virginia Tech Honors College. This is a 9-month Collegiate Assistant Professor position (non-tenure-track multi-year faculty appointment), with opportunity for extended contracts and promotion. We seek a colleague who can closely collaborate in this small but growing unit around teaching, research, and service relevant to Honors College areas of focus. Current faculty have a variety of disciplinary backgrounds, and we encourage applicants from any discipline or field. This career path position will typically teach two courses per semester and will be responsible for conducting collaborative and independent research, including scholarship of teaching and learning and transdisciplinary research, along with college-level and other service.
Required Qualifications
• A terminal degree in their academic field completed prior to the posted position start date
• A proven ability to work collaboratively with students, academic/professional peers, and other university partners
• Demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring highly motivated students from a broad spectrum of disciplines and backgrounds
• Interest in developing approaches to scale and share pedagogies across the university and beyond
• Commitment to pedagogical approaches that serve a wide range of student experiences
• Demonstrated commitment to inter- or trans-disciplinary and collaborative research, and willingness to cross disciplinary boundaries to address complex societal challenges
• An interest in teaching a range of course types and structures, such as collaboratively taught, introductory, active and experiential, project-based, and studio-based classes
• Interest in the scholarship of teaching and learning and/or a strong desire to advance the field of Honors education
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience teaching students across disciplines
• Disciplinary training in health and biomedical sciences
• Demonstrated experience with collaborative teaching
• Experience with student-centered pedagogies
• Experience with the scholarship of teaching and learning
• Experience working with trans-sector nonprofit, industry, government, and/or community partners
• An interest in socially relevant and responsible research, teaching, and service

Be a part of a highly collaborative team as we continually work with campus, community, government, and industry partners and share instructional best practices with the university and beyond. This position provides an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the field of honors education. Collegiate faculty within the Honors College focus on teaching transdisciplinary and collaborative courses and contribute to the scholarship of teaching and learning and transdisciplinary research.
