Description
The City of Powell is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Building Inspector to support the operations of the Building Department. This full-time position is responsible for conducting inspections of residential and commercial construction, ensuring compliance with the Ohio Building Code, the Residential Code of Ohio, and all applicable ordinances, standards, and regulations. This role is essential in protecting the safety of the public and supporting Powell’s commitment to high-quality community development.
Hours
- Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct inspections of commercial and residential construction, mechanical, and related installations to ensure compliance with State and local building codes.
- Inspect buildings at various stages of construction, alteration, or repair for code compliance and safe construction practices.
- Perform inspections for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning projects and portions of residential and commercial construction projects.
- Check the quality of construction methods and materials.
- Record and log all inspection requests and results; post stop work orders when necessary.
- Issue warning citations and correction notices to ensure compliance.
- Review residential plans and specifications for conformity with building codes and regulations.
- Provide information and advice to contractors, property owners, architects, engineers, and the general public regarding the application of building codes.
