- Assistant Communications Manager
Description
This position supports the coordination of public safety services, including Police, Fire, and EMS, to ensure the protection of life and property. Oversees the performance of dispatch operations, supervises emergency communications staff, and provides leadership to maintain efficient and effective emergency communication services. Also involves assisting the Communications Manager in planning, organizing, and directing the activities and operations of MATCOM.
Requirements
Minimum Education: Equivalent knowledge and level of competency associated with an Associate’s degree obtained from an accredited college or university. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Communication, Emergency Management or related field preferred.
Minimum Experience: If no formal education, ten (10) years of increasingly responsible experience in public safety communications and records operation, including emergency dispatching and direct supervisory experience.
With formal education, five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in a public safety communications and records operation, including emergency dispatching and two (2) years of direct supervisory experience.
Minimum Certifications:
Must have or ability to obtain Emergency Number Professional (ENP) Certificate or Registered Public Safety Leader (RPL) Certificate within one (1) year of date of hire.
Must have or ability to obtain EMD and EFD Certifications within one (1) year of date of hire.
Other Requirements:
Must possess a valid State of Alaska Driver’s License.
Homeland Security orientation tests (Incident Command Systems) will be groups; speak and write clearly and effectively to a variety of individuals in simple, understandable and required as a term of employment taken on-line: Entry level ICS-100 within fifteen days of date hired and ICS-200, ICS-700, and ICS-800 within 45 days of date of hire; ICS Complete ICS-300 and ICS-400 training as it becomes available.
