We are seeking an experienced Android Developer to join our dynamic engineering team. You'll play a crucial role in developing and enhancing native Android applications used by millions of users across TEGNA's local media properties. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, shaping the user experience and driving technical excellence in our Android offerings.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain high-performance, reusable, and reliable Android code using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
- Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Designers, QA, and other engineering teams in an Agile environment
- Integrate RESTful APIs to deliver seamless user experiences
- Write and maintain unit and UI tests to ensure app reliability and code quality
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of our CI/CD pipelines
- Participate actively in sprint planning, retrospectives, and cross-team collaboration sessions
- Monitor app performance using analytics and crash-reporting tools, proactively addressing any issues
- Help maintain code quality, organization, and automation, effectively managing technical debt
- 3-5+ years of professional Android development experience building end user facing applications
- Strong proficiency with Kotlin and familiarity with Jetpack Compose
- Experience working with REST APIs and handling asynchronous operations
- Solid understanding of Android architecture components and design patterns (e.g., MVVM)
- Familiarity with automated testing (JUnit, Espresso) and modern CI/CD practices
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to write clean, maintainable code
- Strong collaboration skills and comfort working in a cross-functional team environment
- Experience with video playback, streaming protocols (HLS), or advertising frameworks
- Familiarity with advanced Android capabilities (e.g., Push Notifications, deep linking)
- Interest or experience mentoring junior developers

Regardless of participation in TEGNA medical plans, ALL employees and their eligible family members receive nine free virtual doctor's appointments with a physician through Teladoc, and 12 free annual therapy sessions with a licensed clinician through Spring Health.
TEGNA offers a generous Paid Time Off (PTO) benefit as well as nine paid holidays per year.
